Lawrence Slams 3 Deep for Spartanburg
Monday, May 10th , 2055
Spartanburg Spartans second baseman Mike Lawrence put on a dazzling display of power at The Guild against the Evanston Elitists. In the 11-6 Spartans victory, Lawrence penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts.
"He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Evanston manager Raúl Fernández said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well."
Along with his three home runs, the 21-year-old had 3 hits in 5 at-bats, 6 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Lawrence said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today."
Mike Lawrence hit a two-run home run off Ron Belcher in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Ron Belcher in the 2nd, struck out in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 7th.
Lawrence on the season is batting .274 with 8 home runs. His totals include 16 RBIs and 12 runs scored. He has played in 25 games.
