Murphy Powers 3 HR Against Bryant
Sunday, May 16th , 2055
It's a rare event when a player hits three homers in a game and rarer still when he does it and loses.
It happened at Filibertos Field, as Greg Murphy of the Chula Vista Tacos unloaded three times against the Bryant Hornets but was still bumped off, 11-9, by the Hornets.
"We were lucky to win today," said Bryant skipper Travis Ezell. "You can't give up that many home runs and expect to win on a regular basis."
For the game, the Chula Vista first baseman had 3 hits in 4 at-bats, scored 4 times, and drove in 4.
Murphy spoke to the writers in the postgame press room with mixed feelings, saying he was sad to lose but happy to be seeing the ball well.
"I was just trying to swing early and often to give myself a chance," he said. "I let the pitcher supply all the power and try to figure out how to get the bat on the ball."
Greg Murphy hit a two-run home run off Ray Maines in the 1st, was hit by a pitch in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Ray Maines in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Brendan England in the 7th and flied out in the 9th.
For the season, Murphy has produced 47 hits in 151 at-bats for a .311 average with 16 home runs and gotten on base at a .416 clip.
