Going, Going, Gone! Murphy Hits 3 Homers
Saturday, April 3rd , 2055
Chula Vista Tacos first baseman Greg Murphy put on a dazzling display of power at Caracas Field against the Bryant Hornets. In the 9-2 Tacos victory, Murphy penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts.
"He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Bryant manager Travis Ezell said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well."
Along with his three home runs, the 22-year-old had 4 hits in 5 at-bats, 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Murphy said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today."
Greg Murphy doubled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Ray Maines in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Ray Maines in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Tyler King in the 9th.
This season, Murphy has delivered 9 hits in 16 at-bats for a .562 average with 6 home runs. He is getting on base at a .650 clip and his totals also include 12 RBIs and 8 runs scored. This year Murphy has played in 5 games.
