Wilson Stops Illinois Cold, 2-0
Saturday, May 6th , 2051
The South Carolina Gamecocks did little to support starter Jack Wilson against the Illinois Fighting Illini, but it turned out he didn't need the help.
The right-hander spun a complete game shutout against the Fighting Illini, striking out 11 and surrendering 3 hits. The performance from Wilson allowed South Carolina to escape with the 2-0 win despite an anemic offense.
"Nobody came to me and said 'Jack, we're gonna need you to win this one for us today,' but I could feel it," Wilson told BNN reporters following the win. "I'm the guy that will step up for you when you need it."
Thus far this season, Wilson has worked 51.2 innings with 58 strikeouts en route to a 3-2 record and a 4.01 ERA.
