Cruz Fires 2-0 Shutout for Virginia Tech
Tuesday, May 20th , 2053
The Georgetown Hoyas were almost helpless in their 2-0 loss to the Virginia Tech Hokies and hurler Pedro Cruz. Cruz kept the Hoyas confused all game, spinning a 1-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Cruz," Georgetown manager Juan Barrera said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 20-year-old left-hander had 1 walk and 13 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Cruz said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
This season, Cruz has a 4-3 mark in 10 starts with a 7.11 ERA. He has given up 57 hits in 50.2 innings, struck out 66 and issued 32 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .281 batting average against him.
