Mike Hennessey Hurls No-No Against Tennessee
Monday, April 24th , 2051
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish relied on no-hit stuff from starter Mike Hennessey to defeat the Tennessee Volunteers 1-0 at Frank Eck Stadium today.
"It's quite a thrill," Hennessey told the media afterward. "This is a top-notch league. A no-hitter against any team in the league is something special. I can't believe I did it."
To get his name logged in the College Baseball records, he stopped Tennessee cold and hitless, surrendering 2 walks and fanning 12 of the 29 batters he faced.
Notre Dame manager José Espinoza was in a jovial mode after the game, kidding with reporters that Hennessey "made managing easy today."
"I didn't have hardly any decisions to make like I usually do," he said. "I didn't even have to come up with a pinch hitter."
This season, Hennessey has 2 wins and 2 losses and a 4.15 ERA.
