Martínez Runs Hit String to 20 Straight Games Thursday, April 27th , 2051 The Northwestern Wildcats fell to the Vanderbilt Commodores in Rocky Miller Park today, even as 19-year-old third baseman Iván Martínez upped his consecutive-game hitting streak to 20 games. Martínez finished with 1 hit in 5 at-bats, but could not stop the Wildcats from dropping the 9-4 decision. "Yeah, I kept my streak going, but it would have been better to come away with a win," said Martínez. Iván Martínez grounded out in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and grounded out in the 9th. In 29 games this year Martínez has posted a .341 average and put up these numbers: 3 home runs, 9 RBIs and 16 runs scored. |
