Hit Streak Over, Blue Jays Stop Calderón
Sunday, April 27th , 2053
Florida second baseman Luis Calderón came into today's game against the Creighton Blue Jays on a hot streak. He left on a cold one.
The Blue Jays did their jobs well, beating the Florida Gators, 11-1, and holding Calderón hitless to snap his 22-game hitting streak. The 18-year-old second baseman had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-1, telling reporters only that he "came up short."
"What Luis did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Gators manager Javier Vázquez. "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 22 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play."
This season, Calderón is batting .436 with 10 home runs. He has scored 29 runs and driven in 27.
