Pirates End Brand's Streak Tuesday, May 2nd , 2051 Ohio State center fielder Jim Brand came into today's game against the Seton Hall Pirates on a hot streak. He left on a cold one. The Pirates did their jobs well, beating the Ohio State Buckeyes 9-3 and holding Brand hitless to snap his 21-game hitting streak. The 20-year-old center fielder had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-2, telling reporters only that he "came up short." "What Jim did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Buckeyes manager Manuel González. "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 21 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play." Thus far this year Brand has hit .434 with 4 home runs and 29 RBIs. |
