Fighting Illini Halt Pérez Hit Streak
Thursday, May 15th , 2053
The 20-game hitting streak of Nebraska Cornhuskers left fielder Jesús Pérez came to an end at Haymarket Park. The Illinois Fighting Illini held him hitless in 1 at-bat and also sent the Cornhuskers down to defeat, 6-1.

Later, Pérez acknowledged to BNN reporters that the hit streak meant something to him.

"It was special," he said, "but I think other people make a bigger deal out of it than I do, or the players do. It was what we're all supposed to do; go out and hit the ball and try to score runs. It was a cool deal, but it's over now. Let's try to start a new one."

A look at his season totals shows Pérez with 17 home runs, .393 BA, .500 OBP, 50 RBIs and 42 runs scored.
