Blast Off! 3 HR for Smith Tuesday, May 4th , 2055 Grand Rapids HS Summit center fielder Victor Smith put on a dazzling display of power at Oklahoma City HS Grounds against the Oklahoma City HS Magicians. In the 12-1 Summit victory, Smith penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts. "He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Oklahoma City HS manager George Lockhart said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well." Along with his three home runs, the 14-year-old had 3 hits in 4 at-bats, 8 RBIs and 3 runs scored. "Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Smith said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today." Victor Smith flied out in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Thomas Mann in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off Thomas Mann in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Thomas Mann in the 7th and walked in a run in the 8th. For the season, Smith is batting .304 with 41 hits and 4 home runs. He has scored 26 times and batted in 25. |
