Cook Put in Cooler, Hitless Against St. Louis HS
Friday, May 1st , 2054
Newport News HS third baseman Jay Cook experienced something against the St. Louis HS White Sox he hadn't experienced a while: a hitless game.
The White Sox pitching corps quieted his hot bat and snapped his streak at 24 games, but his teammates picked up the slack to lead the Paints to a 15-1 victory at U.S. Cellular Field.
"Hey, ain't nothin' bad about a losing a 24-game hitting streak," Cook joked with reporters after the game. "Now you guys will have to find someone else to bother for stories."
For the season, Cook has produced 57 hits in 151 at-bats for a .377 average with 8 home runs and gotten on base at a .451 clip.
