Santa Fe HS Stops Lucero's Hit Streak Thursday, April 20th , 2051 For 21 straight games, Julián Lucero tried to ignore his hitting streak. It wasn't easy. Well, the 14-year-old Buchanan HS Wizards shortstop can forget about it now -- it's over, courtesy of the Santa Fe HS Chiefs. The Chiefs held him hitless in 1 at-bat at Lincolnville HS Fields today and snapped his consecutive-game hitting string at 21. There was at least one good note to the end of the streak, however, as the Wizards took the win by the score of 11-4. "I tried to ignore it for weeks, but you guys in the media wouldn't let me," he joked with reporters after the game. "I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet now." For the year Lucero is batting .456 with 1 home run. |
