José Rivas Drills 3 HR in One Game Saturday, July 22nd , 2051 The old superstition that "bad news comes in threes" certainly came true for the Watertown Headhunters today. Birmingham first baseman José Rivas tripled up on the home runs to propel the Bulls to the 8-2 win at Headhunters Ballpark. "We had our chances to win the game, but we just didn't come through," Watertown manager Jaime Montés said. "Rivas hit the heck out of the ball." In addition to the homers, Rivas collected 3 hits in 4 at-bats, 5 RBIs and scored 3 runs. "Easy swings get you home runs," he said after the game. "I kept telling myself not to press. They have to be nice and easy swings." José Rivas walked in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Miguel Hernández in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Shen Jin in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Domingo Rodríguez in the 7th and struck out in the 9th. This season Rivas has banged out 108 hits in 348 at-bats for a .310 average with 44 home runs. He is getting on base at a .419 pace and his totals also include 97 RBIs and 78 runs scored. |
